KICK-ASS 2 Review

Hey guys, Movie Maniac here, and I'm bringing to you guys my first ever movie review, so to speak. What better movie to be my first review than Kick-Ass 2!! So I'm going to give you guys my rating system on how I rate movies:
  1. If a movie is bad it gets an: "ASS" rating, meaning don't check it out because it's just horrible.
  2. If a movie is ok, it gets an: "EHH" rating, meaning it was ok, but don't rush to see it
  3. If a movie is fair, it gets a: "Redbox It/Netflix it" rating, meaning it was good but it's worth waiting to rent from Redbox, or watch on Netflix when it goes on there.
  4. If a movie is good, it gets a: "Worth the ticket price" rating, meaning it is good enough where it's not great, but you will have fun with it and enjoy it more in theaters.
  5. Finally, if a movie is great, it gets a: "Awesomeness" rating, meaning the movie is great, fulfilled what it wanted to do superbly, and I recommend watching it over again because it's just that good.
So let's recap before I get into the review. A movie is rated from 1 being lowest and 5 being the highest rate it can receive:
  1. ASS-Bad
  2. EHH-Ok
  3. Redbox It/Netflix It-Fair
  4. Worth the Ticket Price-Good
  5. Awesomeness-Great
Now since that is established, it is time to get into my review of Kick-Ass 2! Now with Kick-Ass 2, I was looking forward to it simply because I loved the first Kick-Ass. Out of all the movies, that came out in 2010, Kick-Ass was in my top 5 favorite movies of 2010, along with Percy Jackson: the Lightning thief, Iron Man 2, The Karate Kid and Scott Pilgrim vs The World, which is saying a lot since I saw almost all the movies that came out in 2010. So yes, I was anticipating Kick-Ass 2, and I am happy to say that I loved Kick-Ass 2; however, I did have some problems with it, but more positives than negatives.

Positives:
One positive of Kick-Ass 2 was to me the acting. It wasn't the best acting in the world but, it wasn't bad either. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz just embodies their characters so good. It was just like riding a bike for them when it comes to their respective characters. Let me point out, I am a big fan of both these actors, I loved Chloe since seeing her play in The Amityville Horror and loved watching her grow as an actress and with Aaron, he sold me when I saw him in Savages, like I loved him in Kick-Ass, but when he was in Savages, he played his character so well that I didn't even recognize that was him with Taylor Kitsch and Blake Lively. I was glad they both just hop right back on the saddle when it came time to do the sequel. Now who blew me away the most was Jim Carey as Colonel Stars and Stripes. Jim Carey is such a great actor and yes he messed my head up when he said he didn't want to support Kick-Ass 2 because this film was one of his best roles that we seen from him in a while. Let's not get into Mr. Popper's Penguins, talking about boring. So I was disappointed by that but I can't deny the fact he was great in the movie.

Another specific positive I wanted to point out about the movie is that it was more than just a gory, comedic, violent, film, it actually had some emotion and depth into it. Especially in the climax of the film, when Dave/Kick-Ass' dad gets arrested and then killed,  talking about tear-jerking. Or when Mindy/Hit Girl. got left in the woods by those evil high school girls, and she was walking home crying and alone. Or when Colonel Stars and Stripes got killed by Mother Russia. Man this movie had more emotion than I expected and I like that.

Negatives:
One negative that I had of Kick-Ass 2 was that it tried so hard to duplicate the same feeling the first film gave us. Granted a sequel film should want to duplicate the magic that made the first one so popular, but they tried too hard and it didn't work.

Second negative was that they didn't explore more of the minor characters more, characters such as the aforementioned Mother Russia, who I thought kicked all sorts of ass. Also the movie was called Kick-Ass 2 but I felt it was more of a Hit-Girl film than a Kick-Ass film. I was more intrigued by Hit-Girl adjusting to high school life than Dave becoming more of a hero. Which is bad because even if the movie has lots of good characters you should always want to promote the titular character more and Kick-Ass 2 didn't do that.

One minor flaw I want to point out is that I found most of the movie funny, but damn, quit with the bad jokes. Like some of the jokes were just awful and just didn't work in certain scenes.

Overall, I'm giving Kick-Ass 2 a 4 rating, meaning it's worth the ticket price in theaters, you would enjoy it more in theaters, it was fun, entertaining, emotional in a sense, it makes me want a Kick-Ass 3, and I highly recommend seeing it in theaters because right now it is losing to Disney's Planes...slice my head off now Hit-Girl.

But let me know if you saw Kick-Ass 2. let me know if you liked it or didn't like it. Let me know if you are looking forward to a third installment, if it this one is successful. Let me know anything you want about Kick-Ass 2.

Until Next Time, I'm the Movie Maniac and I'm Frantic about Films :D
